Lyrics for
Noah

Wendy James

Well, I could not say I was a sailor man,
When God called me to leave this land.
Imagine my surprise as I walked with God,
He told me he was gonna send a flood!

Take your wife, your sons and their wives.
Build a boat to save their lives.
I’ll send along two of every kind
Of animal and insect alive.

As a landlubber, I’ll admit
Inside, I had to chuckle a bit.
Thinking of me trying to build this boat,
The chances of it floating seemed remote!

But thanks to God showing me what to do.
And thanks to the help of my family, too.
We built the ark bigger than a football field or two!
A five story high floating zoo!

And the Lord said,
Noah, Heave-ho!
Build an ark, prepare to embark.
And the Lord said,
Noah, Heave-ho,
Load the animals
Two by two
Save your family and you
Now, Noah go!

Nobody really understood why we,
Seeming to possess a sense of sanity,
Would spend 120 years to build a ship
When we didn’t even live by the sea?

Not only that, but can you guess
What people said when they saw the manifest?
Of everything our vessel was to hold,
Lions, skunks, porcupines and - toads?

Why did God choose to save our clan?
Why didn’t he decide to save every man?
He called us righteous, blameless in our life.
All other hearts were evil all the time.

We wished we could have even saved a few,
We had room inside for them to come along, too.
God made a way, but they chose to stay.
They honestly thought that we were cuckoo!

Chorus

Until it started to…
Rain and pour and God shut the door.
It rained and poured 40 days & nights more.
It rained and poured – God burst heavens floors.
It rained and poured – floodgates deep sprang o’er.
It rained and poured – valleys, towns no more.
It rained and poured - lightning, thunder roared!

It rained and poured tossing all on board.
It rained and poured moving oceans, shores.
It rained and poured we cried out to the Lord!
It rained and poured gone plain and forest floor.
It rained and poured above mountains we soared .

It rained and poured man’s sin no more.
It rained and poured Gods grief outpoured.
And rained and poured and rained and poured!

Suddenly
The
Rain
Was
O’er

Land, ho! I remember that day,
When after a year we came to stay
Nestled at the top of Ararat.
A top a mountain – think of that!

The dove and the olive branch brought us hope,
But, oh the long wait that we had in that boat!
Finally, in his time God opened the door.
Tentatively, we stepped out on the shore.

Sailors knees buckled and swayed,
But even in this we knelt and prayed!
To God in his mercy our family saved.
A thanksgiving altar was made.

God in his wisdom knew that we
Really didn’t belong to the sea.
Knowing our fears, sensing our loss,
He wiped our tears on his sleeve.

Up above our glance appeared
A spectacular arch, a colored sphere!
And welling up our souls were cheered
Freeing us from our fears.

No flood would keep our land at bay.
No water would sweep our lives away.
The rainbow in the sky will say
God’s promise is here to stay!

And the Lord said,
Noah, Rainbows
Promise men I won’t flood the earth again.
And the Lord said, Noah, Rainbows
Arch across the sky
Now bear fruit,
Fill the earth and multiply,
Now, Noah
Now, Noah
Now, Noah,
Now Noah, Go!
Land, ho!
